Women's Neurology Education

Creating space for Women's Neurology education to grow

In 2021 only 3 Women's Neurology training programs existed in North America at the University of Pittsburgh, Harvard University and the University of Toronto. These three programs came together, led by Dr. Janet Waters, Dr. Angela O'Neal, Dr. Aleksandra Pikula and Dr. Esther Bui to create a collaborative shared space to build Women's Neurology education nationally and internationally. In 2022 the Women's Neurology e-Journal club was launched to bring together experts in the field with the addition of a fourth program at UCSF led by Dr. Riley Bove.  In 2023 work began on a Women's Neurology curriculum for neurology training programs, a joint effort by 8 experts across North America. In 2024, the Women's Neurology curriculum was completed and endorsed by the American Academy of Neurology: Emerging Subspecialties. Building on the momentum of this work,  in 2025,  the "Integrating Neurological Sex and Gender Issues in Global Health Training" or INSIGHT network was created to further advance the Women's Neurology curriculum by providing educational material for programs around the world with the inaugural mini-course set to launch in Spring 2025.
